The UK Alumni Vietnam (UKAV) is the association for Vietnamese people who have studied in the UK. It was officially launched in November 2001 and currently the association has approximately 1000 members, all of whom are Vietnamese nationals who have studied in the UK for at least three months either on scholarships or privately funded programmes.
UKAV’s ultimate goal is to connect its members in both a social and a professional context once they’ve completed their courses in the UK.
UKAV Mission
Vision
UK Alumni in Vietnam (UKAV) aims to be the association of choice for all UK-educated Vietnamese.
UKAV mission is to:
- promote the relationship between the UK and Vietnam through a number of networking opportunities within the alumni network and beyond, with educational, professional and business organisations:
- position and project the image of UK Alumni as successful and ethical leaders in society;
- encourage and support continuous professional development and lifelong learning among its members.
Organisation
- The official governing body of UKAV is its Standing Committee, whose members meet at least once a year to provide direction for UKAV’s development.
- The day-to-day operations are jointly undertaken by the British Council and the UKAV Event Committees in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Its members work on a voluntary basis.
- The British Council acts as a 'contact point' between the Standing and Event Committees, and between the Committees and UKAV members. It also supports the Event Committees in event communications, coordination, treasury and fund raising, as well as profile-raising initiatives.
- The Event Committee has recently been set up to plan, organise and carry out activities that fulfill the mission statement of the association. It has been suggested that its functions should be divided into the following four sub-committees, each of which would meet at least twice a year and report to the Standing Committee.
1. Professional/Career Development sub-committee (PCD)
The main objectives are to facilitate alumni work placements, internships and similar career-enhancing initiatives, as well as to promote the use of online resources for professional development.
2.Social Activities sub-committee (SA)
The main objectives are to:
- Organise and coordinate all social events for UKAV;
- Identify and encourage interest groups among alumni (sport, music, outings etc).
3.Fund-Raising sub-committee (FR)
The main objective is to seek funds for UKAV activities, including charity initiatives.
4.Alumni Relations and Communication sub-committee (ARC)
The main objectives are to:
- Promote UKAV membership;
- Effectively communicate initiatives and activities with members;
- Look after the interests of UKAV members.
