It’s not just networking and entertainment, every UKAV Gala has been an occasion where UKAV members show their empathy and responsibility towards t people in need. This year, continuing with the same spirit, Alumni have donated fund to help poor students who have made a significant strive in their study.

During the Hanoi UKAV gala, announcement of the UKAV Education Fund, headed by Mr. Nguyen Hoai Anh, UK Alumnus (2003-2004) was made. Mr. Hoai Anh earned his MSc in Finance at London Business School, University of London and is currently the Chairman of Amigo Investment Holdings and CEO of INB Financials. In addition, Ms Nguyen Vu Ha Anh, a famous model, an UK alumnus has been voted to act as the Fund Ambassador, who has committed to support the cause of the Fund through out the year ahead.

During the Gala, a total fund of 42,645,000Vnd has been raised with enthusastic contribution from all participants. Especially, 12,000,000 Vnd was donated by Mr Nguyen Xuan Hieu, Chief Administrator of NISPASS and the winning team, Nottingham, of the “UKAV Milliionaire Game” had contributed all of their prize of 10,000,000 Vnd. The total sum has been transferred to The UKAV Education Fund and will be used in relevant UKAV Charity activities. With this fund, UKAV Association will reach out to poor students in Hanoi and the neighbourhood to assist them with learning materials and other methods of support.

Last year Gala mobilized a total of 32,600,000Vnd, of which 4,500,000 Vnd was used to buy books and learning materials for children at Cam Son, Son Hai Village, Bac Giang Province in May 2009. Another 24,000,000Vnd was allocated to 10 poor students with excellent study performance in October 2009.

From 2009, The UKAV Education Fund will set for a new direction in terms of its activities. Fund mobilised from previous years was donated to the Vietnam Fund for the Poors or to support specific community projects at different provinces of Vietnam. From 2009, the UKAV Education Fund will focus mainly on supporting students in their study endeavour.

Mission of The Education Fund

• We seek to assist the vulnerable and unprivileged children in their quest for higher education.

• We also promote further education and continuous learning among our own members and wider society.

• We mobilise expertise and experience of UKAV members in supporting people in need to improve their chance of better education and better lives.

Approach of The Education Fund

• We strongly believe that our members’ active involvement in various charity events and activities would make a greater impact than just pure financial contribution.

Funding of the Education Fund

• Financial contribution from UKAV members

• Scholarships and financial funding from British educational institutions, British and local businesses.

• Most importantly, hands-on involvement of our members.

Typical projects of the Education Fund

• Scholarships for pupils at primary/lower/upper Secondary schools

• Joint-name scholarships for students to study in the UK

• Lectures at high-schools on various subjects

• English classes

• Career orientation at high schools

• Self-learning web projects (financial literacy…)

We are very grateful for the generous support from all of UKAV’s members that has enabled the Education Fund can increase the number of charity activities organised year on year.
